Kataang: A Moden Story Ch 2

“Here we are!” Aang said as they approached room 113, still holding Katara's hand.

“Thanks. I was so lost.” Katara said as she followed Aang into the room. The bell rang as soon as they stepped through the door. “Just made it.” She said with a smile, letting go of Aang's hand as they walked further into the room.

“Everyone take a seat. Class is about to begin.” The math teacher said, shuffling papers and walking to her desk.

“Um, Mrs. Baker? We have a new student.” Aang said, gesturing to Katara.

“Oh, yes, you must be Katara.” Mrs. Baker said peering over her glasses.

“Yes ma'am, I just came from Yellow Ridge High.” Katara replied.

“Ah, yes, home of the bobcats. Welcome to Central High, Katara. You may take a seat over there, in front of Mai.”

Mai waved, gesturing to the seat in front of her. Katara followed suit, taking her seat. Aang took his seat too, which happened to be right beside Mai. He was happy about this, because her could watch her. For observatory purposes, of course. Aang thought to himself.

And he did watch her, for almost the whole class. He didn't even concentrate on his math quiz. He didn't get to study, so it didn't matter much anyway. It was a bad idea, in his opinion, to take this advanced course anyway. He only did it so he could be with Toph and Zuko. Zuko was taking this course because it was required, but he was doing good in it. Toph was taking it even though it was two grades ahead of her, and she was doing great. Aang, on the other hand, wasn't doing so well. And having Katara sitting in front of him wasn't helping him.

In the last five minutes of class, something hit Aang's shoulder and landed on his lap. It was a balled-up piece of paper. He opened it up. It said:

Aang,

Oh-ho! We can see you staring at the new girl, and were pretty sure somethings up. Why don't you invite her to our lunch table? It would be nice to have a new person in our gaang. Ha, this just gives us more of an opportunity to annoy you.

Zuko and Toph

'Ugh,' Aang thought. He turned around and looked at his friends, who both waved and smiled largely, and sarcastically. They always loved to annoy him, but they cared about him. 'We've all known each other since grade school,' Aang thought. 'Maybe I should take their advice. Who knows? Maybe she can be part of our gaang'

A couple of hours later, it was finally time for lunch. Aang had to survive through science, but at least he got to go to history. He always liked the idea of reincarnation and the four elements being the base of everything. 'Why can't things be that simple?' he thought. He finally arrived at the cafeteria and got his usual: A veggie burger, fries and a lemonade. He then went to his table with Zuko and Toph.

“There she is!” Zuko said as nudged Aang's arm and pointed at Katara. She was standing alone with her tray, looking around the lunchroom.

“Go ahead, wave at her!” Toph said to Aang.

Aang stood up and waved at her, gesturing for her to come sit. Katara saw this and smiled, walking over to the table.
